JamPod: Jamboard & Nearpod for Live Demonstrations

Updated: Aug 22, 2020

My love for Nearpod is so strong, but there are still some small changes teachers seek to enhance the process of teaching virtually. One is to allow for live demonstrations within Nearpod. Jamboard allows that to happen.

When you insert a Jamboard within Nearpod students are automatically (or very easily) directed to the Jamboard within the Nearpod lesson. The presenter can present in real-time. Be sure to set up the Jamboard settings to "view only." When the teacher changes the Nearpod slide, students are automatically transitioned from Jamboard back to Nearpod. No directions are needed to tab between screens.

I typically present on screen with this XP-writing tablet. I would search for a wireless one if you plan to use one in the classroom in the future. It will free you from your desk.

Notes

  • Students using cell phones will need the Jamboard app in order to view the Jamboard.

  • The teacher must tab back to Nearpod. Changing the Nearpod slide will automatically change the students back to Nearpod.

  • When teaching multiple classes build a process to have a prepped Jamboard for each class.

    • Clean off new markings before the next class. *Do not click “clear board.” All prepped work will be removed.

    • Create the same Jamboard for each class you teach.

    • Create a Jamboard and a Nearpod lesson for each class.

  • Student-paced students will be able to view the finished Jamboard if viewed after the live lesson.

  • Up to 50 people should be able to view the Jamboard according to Google "Share your jams with collaborators. Up to 50 people can work on a jam at once."Please note teachers have been having trouble sharing with more than 24 students at once. Please report issues to Google.

In case you missed it, you can use Jamboards in Nearpod to create online connections, collaboration, and cooperative structures. Check out the post Introducing NearJam: Nearpod + Jamboard
